Sub-Enclosure.

Head Master to the Governing Body Queen's College.

Sir,

Queen's College,
23rd. April, 1898.

I was instructed yesterday at the meeting of the Governing Body to submit for their consideration remarks upon the following points:-

(1) TIME TABLE showing how the time saved by the abolition of the Chinese School might be utilised for increasing the hours devoted to English studies.

The problem to be solved is to manage this, without unduly increasing the existing hours of the staff, so as to avoid any form of compensation, either in the pecuniary form of increase of salary or by increase of vacation, both of which courses are open to objection.

In dealing with a large staff, it is important, as far as possible, to observe uniformity in assigning hours of duty; and where that staff consists of two nationalities, care is requisite not to appear to unduly weigh the native teachers of English.

The following is the scheme I would suggest:-

School hours to remain as at present
9-1.30
